Upton Snodsbury
This is one of the few traditional border dances although I am led to believe that the original notation of the dance, which was collected by Maud Karples in the 1920’s, is extremely sketchy. My extensive YouTube research shows that several other sides do an almost completely different dance with the same name; the only similarity being that it is done in straight sets of three.

Set - 3 dancers in a straight line

Chorus - Nos. 1 & 2 stick together, if there is another set then the two No. 3 dancers can stick across the sets
1: Clash on the floor to the right
2: Clash on the floor to the left
3&4: Three backhand clashes
5: Clash on the floor to the left
6: Clash on the floor to the right
7&8: Three forehand clashes
1-8: Hey in line
Nos. 2 & 3 stick together, if there is another set then the two No. 1 dancers can stick across the sets
1: Clash on the floor to the right

Star - 1-8: Hold sticks vertically in the middle of the set and dance clockwise
1-8: Swap sticks to left hands and dance anti-clockwise
Through - 1-4: No. 3 dances to the left of No. 2, between
the Middle Nos. 1 & 2
5-8: No. 3 continues to dance round clockwise back to place, while Nos. 1 & 2 do a full body swing
1-8: No 3 continues to dance around Nos. 1 &2, while they swing, and back to place
1-4: No. 1 dances to the left of No. 2, between
Nos. 2 & 3
5-8: No. 1 continues to dance round clockwise back to place, while Nos. 2 & 3 do a full body swing
1-8: No 1 continues to dance around Nos. 2 & 3, while they swing, and back to place
Rounds - 1-8: All dancers dance round anti-clockwise
1-8: Dancers turn out to the right and dance back clockwise to place
Swinging - 1-4: Nos 1&2 swing
