The sun was blazing down on Wissett yesterday afternoon so strongly that we persuaded the landlord to let us dance a couple of hours later than originally planned. Even then the face paint was literally dripping off us but we soldiered on although Ruth found it hard work playing her sax on the uneven grass underfoot.
We did a six dance set with some interesting variations, which may have been something to do with the excellent beer we all enjoyed. In addition we did our traditional Tinner's workshop session although this was the first time I have taught the dance to Ghostbusters; it was just a shame that Batman and Spiderman waited until we were half way through before deciding that they would have liked to dance too.
Before we danced we had enjoyed listening to the Inside Out Trio playing some decent bluesy numbers and were looking forward to more good music in the evening. Sadly the heavens opened and Firewire were forced to give up just four songs into their set as the stage, and their equipment, were starting to get wet.
Ruth and Al saved the day with an impromptu folk session in the beer tent which even culminated in me calling a ceilidh dance. I suspect that I wasn't up to the standard of my usual dance calling, which is normally with groups of children in school. Even so everybody seemed happy.
As we packed up to head home on Sunday lunchtime everyone agreed that we would love to come back next year and hopefully stay for the whole weekend.
